Casting Stones

September 25, 2013

MileyCyrusRecently I had a conversation with an acquaintance about Miley Cyrus’ antics at the MTV Video Awards show and her posing nude for her album. This person commented about how he saw nothing wrong with her “performance”. He stated that he understood and he had no problem with her attempt to distance herself from her past. He understood her desire to further her future career by expanding it. He actually went further and praised her for her actions. He even cheered her on. Keep in mind that this person is a Christian with Christian values.

To say that the conversation stunned me would be an understatement. It floored me! I replied that what she did was totally unnecessary but I understood her need to move on with her career. I understand her desire to alienate herself from her squeaky clean image so she could gain a wider fan base. But I also said that she didn’t have to do what she did, there are many other ways to accomplish her goal without giving to the dark slutty side of the entertainment industry.

He mentioned how Madonna and so many others have done even worse to further their careers, and that Miley’s actions were mild in comparison to some of their antics. He stated that if it was okay for others to do it, then it should be okay for Miley to do it. That is like saying others have jumped off the bridge so it is okay for her to jump also. He then actually used Bible scripture to ridicule me by saying “He who is without sin should cast the first stone”. He chastised me for judging her.

She is taking the same path many sinners take which is the shortcut or the easy way to fame and fortune. Sex sells like nothing else on the planet. If you want to guarantee riches, then sell sex. It has made many a sinner rich. It has always worked in the record industry, in the movie industry, in the TV industry, in the sugar daddy industry, and it works in the prostitution industry. If you think about it, all of these industries are really participating in the prostitution industry because those who sell sex in any industry are prostituting themselves to the almighty dollar. Whether Madonna or Miley will admit it or not, they are prostituting themselves for fame and fortune.

As for his comments chastising me, let me first say this, if we don’t point out each other’s sins, then who will? As a Christian it is my job and the job of all Christians to speak out against injustice, cruelty and sinful acts, especially when it is a Christian who is committing the act. I can’t believe any devout Christian could do what she did or that one would even condone what she did.  We are instructed to be on our guard for the presence of evil, even within each other and ourselves. That means we are to chastise those who vary from the path of righteousness. That applies to all of us, as well as me. If I am wrong in my understanding of the Bible then I expect to be corrected, even in this matter.

I was not stoning her or even attacking her in any way, but I was attacking her actions.  I was pointingMiley_Father out the sinful nature of her actions. I know that I am no saint, but I also know that what she did was vulgar and sinful. I mourn for her and her parents because if she continues down this path, they are all headed for a very bad sad future. It saddens me to see someone with a reputation like hers, throw it all away and for what?  More fame and fortune. She is selling her soul for fame and fortune, just like so many others have done before her. What does it profit her to gain the whole world, if she loses her soul?

His reference to Christ’s words is totally inappropriate and is been taken out of context. Many people use this scripture to attack those who point out the failings of others, but they always fall short of telling the whole story.  The woman was guilty of adultery and by Jewish Law the punishment for that sin was stoning. But they had already found her guilty and instead of passing judgment themselves, they asked Jesus to pass judgment in order to trap him with his own words.  Jesus was smarter than that and he exposed their own sinful nature. The act of stoning is an act of punishment, not an act of proving guilt or innocence.  She had already been judged guilty and now they were going to punish her. My purpose is not to punish anyone for their actions, but to testify to their guilt or innocence.  Just as the scribes and Pharisees left the execution of her punishment up to Jesus, so will I. It isn’t up to me to punish Miley, but it is up to me, as well as you, to point out her sinful nature.

The most important part of the quote was left out. Jesus didn’t just address the scribes and Pharisees who were about to stone the adulteress, he also personally addressed her. After the crowd walked away without throwing a single stone, he turned to her and said “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” This implies that she had repented of her adulteress ways and it also implies that Jesus had forgiven her sin. If there is no repentance then there is no forgiveness of sin. His statement acknowledges that she did indeed sin and that implies that she needed to change her ways or she would be condemned.

Just like the adulteress, Miley sinned with her cheap sexual act on the awards show. However. I see no repentance on Miley’s part because she continues doing more of the same, and therefore she hasn’t acknowledged her sinful nature. She is not going her way to sin no more. I would dare say that Jesus would condemn her for that very fact. I maybe wrong because I’m not God or Jesus, but from what he has said, it seems apparent to me that he would condemn her actions.

AbortionI tell you this story because I think it shows exactly what is wrong with this country today.  It has become politically incorrect to point out other’s sins. We are expected to ignore others who live in sin and we are ridiculed for pointing out their sins. We are expected to be tolerant of others and their sins. We are even now being forced to accept their sinful ways as a valid way of life.  The government is not only trying to force all of us to pay for one of the worst sins ever contrived by man, which is the death of millions of the unborn, but it is trying to force us to participate. America’s social morality is changing right before our eyes. It is transforming to an anti-God, anti-Christ or anti-moral society. We are being persuaded that Bible morality is wrong and we should be able to do any and everything our hearts desire. We are being told that the Bible is either wrong, a false doctrine, or it is being misinterpreted. Those pushing this agenda are trying to rewrite the Bible to fit their agenda. If you rewrite the Bible then it is nothing more than a book written by man.

What they want is not morality but actually the absence of morality. Morality is all about restraints, and doing whatever you want, whenever you want is the opposite of restraint. Our government was conceived from Judeo-Christian morals and values. That is why our Constitution is being attacked today because it is too moral for our “new leaders”. That is why there are so many churches changing their beliefs today. They are trying too hard to please this new ideology of pleasing everyone. That is why Chrislam is the religion of choice among many of those with this ideology.

If you’re not familiar with Chrislam then you should be because it is exactly as it sounds.  It is a mixture of Christianity and Islam into one belief system. It was conceived to please followers of both Christianity and Islam so as to gain more followers. Just like Miley they are looking for more fame and fortune with a greater following. Religion is not supposed to be there to please you, but it is suppose to please God. The Romans adopted the Gods of their conquests and where did it get them? The Greeks also adopted Gods from other nations. Most of the empires in the past did the same and they all perished. They perished because it caused confusion and it changed the identity of the empire. There are many other reasons for their destruction, but not having a sound belief system contributed to their downfall, just as it will in America’s.

I worry that too many Americans are adopting these same beliefs as my friend. Too many are accepting too many sinful acts as acceptable behavior. The more sin they accept, the more callus they become to future immorality. That is contributing to the demoralization of America. The conversation that sparked this blog ended with me receiving a metaphor from the friend that said, in so many words “change my opinion or leave”. In other words I was told to shut up or get out. Just like my friend, the American leadership is telling Christians to shut up or else face prosecution.

Sorry, but a devout Christian can’t just shut up. He or she has to speak out. It is required of all Christians to speak out and to confront evil whenever and where ever it is found. Evil always wants to silence the truth and keep it in the dark. It will be at our peril if we let that happen. So if you consider yourself a devout Christian you should also consider it your job to speak up and not support evil when you see it or hear it. Above all you should never cheer it on or praise it because to do so is to join it. If you join it, you could be joining it for eternity. Consider that when you see someone performing sexual acts in public or in a public forum. If you watch and accept the act, you are participating in the act. Think about that next time you may want to priase or cheer on sinful acts.

I am a devout Constitutional conservative and Christian. My only degree is in life experiences, which comes from a lifetime of learning from life. I derived my education from being part of this great nation and that has given me more of an education than I could ever get from any text book. I love this country and everything it is supposed to stand for. I write to bring it back to its roots and to help stop the destruction that is coming to this country both morally and physically.
