Mayor Bloomberg recently made some statements about the Second Amendment and I want to talk about those statements. Remember this is the same person who tried to take away your right to decide how large a soda you should be able to purchase. Keep that in mind as you read his statements. Let us start with this one.
“But we live in a complex world where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”
I agree with him on the fact that we live in a more complex world than, as he put it in the “olden days”. I disagree on the fact that we need a greater level of security than in the olden days. Back then security was always something that was on their mind, even more so than it is today. They had to worry about all kinds of wild furious animals, all of which are all but gone from our landscape. They never knew when a mountain lion, a bear or a pack of wolves might just happen to pay them a visit. Then there was the other “wild human animals” that they had to contend with, which would come into town and wreak havoc after having a few libations. There were also the Native Americans who were always a threat. Life was a lot more dangerous back then than it is today. They had a need for a much higher level of security than we have. The odds of dying were much higher back then than now.
The need for personal security never changes. Those who think that personal security changes with time are deluding themselves. There are, always have been and always will be predators of some kind out to kill. When it comes to personal security there is no better security than the type you personally supply for yourself.
I just love the way he and most liberals think that the Constitution is up for interpretation. The Constitution can only be interpreted one way. and to try to interpret it any other way creates a lie and corrupts the heart of the Constitution. The Constitution is just fine the way it is and there is no need to change how it is interpreted. The only change that is needed is in the people who think that America needs to be changed. These people, for some reason think that they need to shackle America by shredding the Constitution and our rights in the pretense of increasing our security.
As he continued to make his speech he added this:
The best part of the “olden days” was that they knew what security really was. Cameras are great for providing evidence of a crime AFTER it is committed. They rarely stop a crime from being committed. An increase in law enforcement provides for a quicker response to a crime scene after the crime is committed. But when it comes to most terrorists, they don’t care if a camera is taping and many actually want the cameras there to publicize their acts. Even if a camera does catch them in the act it is a fact that the police can never react fast enough to stop them. You should know that because the terrorists definitely know that.
I have to ask, how does one feel more secure knowing that someone somewhere is watching your every move? A camera isn’t going to save you unless it can give you instant protection, which it can’t. Also, how do you know that the person watching has honorable intentions or how do you even know there is a real person watching and not just some recorder? What could be better than giving Big Brother the power to watch us all the time or at least the ability to tape us all the time? You must realize that is exactly what will happen because there is no way that they can have someone watching everything on every camera. How can a video tape stop a bomber from blowing up his bomb when he already has it in place?
I know some of you will say, “But we have the technology, so since we have it we should use it.” I would ask, is that really true? Mere possession of technology doesn’t justify its use. We have the weapon technology for the atomic bomb, nerve gas and biological weapons, does that justify their use? Technology must be used responsibly and putting every citizen under a microscope isn’t using it responsibly. Just because you possess the technology that doesn’t mean you should use it.
He added this also:
“Clearly the Supreme Court has recognized that you have to have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and what it applies to and reasonable gun laws … Here we’re going to have to live with reasonable levels of security,”
Since when has the Supreme Court had different interpretations of the Second Amendment? I can’t remember ever hearing about different interpretations of the Second Amendment coming out of the Supreme Court. Where did he get that from?
If you can have different interpretations of the Second Amendment then you open the door for different interpretations of everything in the Constitution. This will be the first step for the corruption of the Constitution and it must not be allowed. There is only one interpretation of everything in the Constitution and to think otherwise is treasonous to the Constitution.
I would love to know what he considers as “reasonable levels of security”. I believe his idea of reasonable security is to have a national lockdown. He would disarm every honest law abiding citizen. He would watch their every move. He would make them a prisoner in their own country. That is not reasonable in my book. If he wants that kind of security for himself then I suggest that he go live at Rikers Island. He will have exactly what he is wanting for us.
I particularly love this comment he made:
“It really says something bad about us that we have to do it. But our obligation first and foremost is to keep you safe if you go to a sporting event to keep you safe if you walk down the streets or go into our parks. We cannot let the terrorists put us in a situation where we can’t do those things. And the ways to do that is to provide what we think is an appropriate level of protection.”
Yes it does say something bad about you that you want to do this. It is wrong to penalize the innocent for the sins of the guilty. We should never sacrifice our values or freedoms just because others hate us and want to take those values and freedoms from us. When we sacrifice those things the terrorists win and we lose, big time.
He would rather the terrorists win their goal than for us to live our lives with the freedoms that we cherish so deeply. He is willing to transform America and imprison its citizens within a police state. Our freedoms come with a price and that price should be up to us, not him. I am not willing to pay the price of my freedoms for his level of security. Tyranny always starts out as an innocent change in security then grows from there into a full blown lock-down. Every freedom that we give up is one step closer to that tyrannical lock-down.
Mayor Bloomberg you can take your security measures and create your own version of “Escape From New York”, but leave me and America out of that picture. My fellow patriots and I want no part or role in that script.
