The biggest enemy of any successful country is the “convenient life” and America is no exception to that rule. The Romans were victims of the convenient life because they became lazy and complacent about their empire. America is following in their footsteps because it has managed to create a life style for its citizens can best be described as “convenient”. Everything about America has become convenient. We have convenient fast foods all around us. We have convenience stores everywhere for our convenience. There are few things that can’t conveniently be acquired in America. But that isn’t why I say we are living the “convenient life”. There is another reason that I bring up our convenient life and that is going to be the reason for America’s downfall.
Everybody wants their life to be easy and convenient but that can be the worst thing to happen to a person. Convenience isn’t always a good thing. Being convenient means it is easy and being easy isn’t such a good thing especially where people are concerned. Every time we have a convenient moment we lose a learning moment. People don’t learn anything from convenience but they can learn a world of knowledge from inconvenience.
Think about the sign to the left and what it is saying, then compare it to what comes of its use. It is the same thing that comes of the uses of other conveniences in America. You live by the conveniences in life you will get the stuff that is conveniently flushed down to you. If you don’t work for what you have you will never appreciate what you have.
Life was never meant to be convenient or easy, life should be a nonstop learning experience. If the learning stops, then the reason for living stops. Making everything convenient makes life dull and lifeless. A convenient life is like living the life of a robot. Maybe some people like living a robotic life where you aren’t expected to make any choices or to put forth any effort. I would dare say that few people really want such a life even though many try very hard to obtain one. That is why I have to ask, why do we work so hard to make life so convenient?
We try very hard to make everything in life convenient. Every day man invents conveniences for himself and others. We see it mostly in our technology but it is in every aspect of our lives. Fighting for a problematic marriage is inconvenient, so many jump into a divorce without even trying to fix the problem. The lawyers have created the phrase “Irreconcilable Differences” for our convenience so we can conveniently get out of a sour marriage or inconvenient marriage.
Voting is an inconvenience, therefore few people vote. People just don’t want to be inconvenienced, which is understandable but not necessarily the best thing for us or America. To vote responsibly one must do their homework by researching the candidates and the issues. We all know how inconvenient homework is so few voters vote responsibly.
Morality is another prime example of this fact. It is more convenient to give up ones purity or virginity because it is much more convenient to please your lover than not. It is more convenient to shack up with one’s lover than to live apart. People would rather move in together and create their own “love shack” than get married first. It is more convenient to be a “life partner” than a married spouse.
It is more convenient to abort a baby than to take responsibility for a convenient act you made one night. It is more convenient to ban guns than accept the fact that violence has nothing to do with guns. It is more convenient to blame the gun than the shooter. It is more convenient to increase the debt ceiling, than bite the bullet and cut spending, after all the excessive spending makes for a more convenient lifestyle for those who want the convenient life.
There are so many convenient things about our lives and very few inconvenient things. The biggest inconvenience in our lives is the truth. Throughout our lives the truth has had to take the back seat because it is inconvenient and easier to disregard the truth. Most will take the easy or convenient way out, almost every time.
There is a huge group of the populous in America who have made welfare into a career because of its convenience. It is a lot easier to take a welfare check than actually get a job and work for what you have. I’m not talking about those who are unable to work because of a legit disability but I am talking about those who are totally capable of holding a job and working for a living. There is a huge percentage on welfare that fit this bill. That is the bill we have to pay every day so they aren’t inconvenienced.
Many people say that our tax system is broken and needs to be changed but few fight for a change because it is inconvenient to change it. It is more convenient to keep the status quo than throw the tax code and IRS out with the garbage. Most prefer to take the convenient path of putting yet another Band-Aid on top of the thousands of Band-Aids already placed on our tax code. Our tax system is broken beyond repair and it has become a cancer upon our government. The tax code is beyond anyone’s comprehension, even the IRS. The IRS has become so corrupted that it is now a tool of the political process. However it is more convenient to put a Band-Aid on the problem than accept the inconvenient truth that both need to go.
It is more convenient to push for flat taxes and other convenient tax “reforms” than accept the fact that making the inconvenient move of passing the Fair Tax Bill. It is inconvenient to study the Fair Tax and more convenient to believe the lies that have been spread about the bill. Heaven forbid that someone might actually read the bill and see what is in it before it is voted on.
Convenience is the motivating factor in all our lives. We have become too lazy to even realize that we are lazy and all that is because of convenience. If we are to ever make a real positive change for the good of America we need to stop doing the convenient thing. We need to start doing the work ourselves and stop leaving it up to someone else to do the work for us. When you leave it up to someone else, you are allowing someone else to do what is convenient for them. You should never trust someone else to do the right thing or the convenient thing because you are again doing the convenient thing for you.
What I am saying is that it is time to get off our convenient sofas and do something. We need to take responsibility for our government. We need to vote and vote responsibly. We need to hold our government and all those within it responsible for their actions. We need to clean up our government and remove all the corruption at all levels. We need to educate ourselves about all the issues. That doesn’t mean to take the convenient path and believe everything we hear. It means to read and research everything from both sides of the aisle.
I know what I ask is very inconvenient and that is exactly my point. We need to stop being convenient about our lives and especially where our government is concerned. I know that it will be hard work but it is a necessity for correcting the corruption that is taking over America. This is my inconvenient truth. I can only hope that it will be taken to heart and someone will start doing the inconvenient thing where America is concerned.
If you learn anything from this article learn this: The convenient things we receive in life are always the things worth less.

I am a devout Constitutional conservative and Christian. My only degree is in life experiences, which comes from a lifetime of learning from life. I derived my education from being part of this great nation and that has given me more of an education than I could ever get from any text book. I love this country and everything it is supposed to stand for. I write to bring it back to its roots and to help stop the destruction that is coming to this country both morally and physically.
