I recently wrote an article titled “What is Love And How Do I Love My Enemy”. After I wrote that article it dawned on me that there is a flip side to the coin of love and it isn’t a very pleasant side. The flip side of love is hatred. It is the exact opposite of love and everything love stands for.
Love and hatred can never be expressed together because to get to the other side you have to flip the coin to the the dark side. The hate side is the dark side of the coin and the dark side of life. Love brings joy. Hate brings pain. Love is caring. Hate could care less. Love is worth the living. Hate isn’t worth the living or the dying. Everything about love and hate is bipolar. So I felt it would be irresponsible of me not to write about love’s evil twin.
Hate is an emotion just like love, but its embrace carries entirely different consequences than love. Among other things hatred will increase your blood pressure, therefore it isn’t good for your health where as love can sooth you and even cure you. The old expression “my blood is boiling” comes from what hatred does to the human body. Hatred literally cooks us from the inside out. Hatred if left unchecked can kill a person. I don’t know of anyone dying from love, I’m sure many have died from the lack of or the loss of love but that’s not loves fault.
Hatred’s damage goes much deeper than just our physical being, because it can burrow deep into our hearts and minds. It is like a cancer and once it makes a home in our thought process it owns us. Hate just like love, is blind. But its blindness can cause more damage to us than it can cause to anyone else. Hatred makes one blind to the truth and to any positive attributes of the object of our hatred. Most importantly hatred leaves no room for love.
There is a place for hatred in our lives but there is no place for the hatred of others. Evil should always be hated but remember that it is the evil that should be hated not the evil doers. God has stated that he hates evil but nowhere in the Bible has God stated that he hates anyone. If God can love everyone regardless of their actions, then why can’t we? We can hate their actions but we shouldn’t hate them. No man is without sin, except one. That means every one of us, on at least one occasion has disappointed God and I would bet you any amount of money that none of us disappointed God on just ONE occasion. If we all sin, then how can we hate others because they sin?
I know it is hard not to direct our hatred of the actions of others, also toward those who commit the heinous acts. Doing so is part of being human and is part of our imperfections. But we should always try to rise above the level of the evil doers and find the love that will overcome. That is our prime directive and it applies to everything we do.
We need to pity the evil doers because they know not what they do. If we love them like my previous article states then we would want what is best for them, another words we would want for them, what they really need. What they really need would change them and they would no longer do evil. Thus their actions would no longer give us a foundation for our hatred and we would no longer have a desire to hate them.
If everyone received what they needed instead of what they wanted the world would be a utopia of love and harmony. Hatred is breed out of negative desires for things, such as greed, lust, contempt, jealousy and other destructive desires. If we could keep our desires and emotion in the positive realm, hatred will have no room to move in.
Hatred is usually fueled by anger which is the most destructive force on the planet. Anger will get you nowhere fast. Once anger comes to a head you will lose your head. I dare anyone to tell me that they can think better when they are angry. You can’t because you know anger turns off logic and turns on animalistic instincts which have no place for logic. Logic is what separates us from the animal kingdom, without it we are just a bunch of animals going through a mechanized life with no real purpose.
I plead with you to use that God given logic to learn to love others and to dispose of any hatred you might have for others. It will not only make the world a better place but it will also make you a better person. That is what the world NEEDS now, better people, loving people. So if you have any love for this world and the people in it then show you love, by not only wishing for it to have what it really needs but also give it what it really needs. Be part of the loving solution and not part of the hateful problem.
I wonder how many will actually heed my words and help cleanse this world of hatred. How many will read this and say “Amen!” but go about their lives hating. I know what I ask is a very tall order for everyone to do but I feel it is necessary if we are to “change” America and the world in a real positive direction. It is just a first step on the road to recovery from the dark days we have found our selves in.

I am a devout Constitutional conservative and Christian. My only degree is in life experiences, which comes from a lifetime of learning from life. I derived my education from being part of this great nation and that has given me more of an education than I could ever get from any text book. I love this country and everything it is supposed to stand for. I write to bring it back to its roots and to help stop the destruction that is coming to this country both morally and physically.
