I thought that since America is headed for socialism and we seem to have little to say about it, that I would look at socialism and compare it to what we have now. Right now we have the ability do anything we wish, within reason of course. We have the ability to pursue any career our heart desires. We have the ability to buy anything within our economic resources. We have the ability to go anywhere in America we desire. We have the ability to wish upon a star. We have the ability to be all that we can be.
We are living within a capitalist economic system which is regulated by a government system called a Constitutional Republic. Our government according its Constitutional Law is limited in the ways it can limit us. It allows us to do the things we do and wish to do, because by law it has to. Under a socialist, communist or Marxist government system you can only do what the government says you can do. You can only be what they say you can be. It has no restrictions on what it can do, and therefore it severely restricts its citizens.
The big difference between socialism and our way of life isn’t what you would think. It’s not capitalism, freedom of religion, free speech, the right to bear arms, due process within the law, personal security of ourselves and property, freedom from double jeopardy with respect to the law, the right to public speedy fair trial, the right to a trial by jury, nor is it the freedom from excessive or cruel punishment under the law. The main difference has nothing to do with our Constitution or our “Bill of Rights”. There is one thing that separates the two systems and it is at the heart of every one of our rights.
That difference cannot be found in the Constitution, instead it is found within the “United States Declaration of Independence”. You can find the answer in one simple idea and statement found within its words of wisdom.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Can you guess what that difference is? It isn’t Life or Liberty, but instead it is the one unalienable right that most people don’t think about in that way. It is the pursuit of happiness. You may say, how can that be the most important difference? It is simple, the ability to make oneself happy is the key to life. People are the most productive when happy. People are truly free when they are happy. Freedom means nothing without happiness and liberty means nothing without happiness.
The Constitution doesn’t guarantee happiness, it only grants the pursuit of happiness. That means we have the right to work for our happiness but not the right to have happiness handed to us. The socialists like to hand out happiness in the form of pipe dreams. They place no requirement or emphasis on the work part of the equation. They actually remove the requirement by guaranteeing their form of happiness regardless of the individual’s participation.
Their form of happiness is the kind of happiness that a wild animal enjoys within his captor’s cage. It is against a wild animal’s instinct to be happy in a cage just like it is against a human’s instinct to be happy in the cage of socialism. I know that some wild animals do acclimate to their captivity, but they are never truly happy. Humans also acclimate to socialism and the less intelligent actually think they are happy, that is until socialism stops providing for all their desires and needs.
The biggest problem with socialism is that it provides for the poor by stealing from the rich, however, sooner or later the rich are no longer rich. When that happens the false happiness is exposed for what it is… false. The multitudes never see this, at least not till it is too late and since they are already caged animals with no rights to do anything, especially to pursue their happiness, they are stuck within the socialist cage.
That is why I say the major difference between our system and all others is happiness. We have the hope of happiness if we are willing to work for it, but all others have only a false promise of happiness. We can have happiness but it is our choice and right to go for it. All others promise happiness without ever truly being able to deliver on the promise. They never will be able to deliver on the promise because they promise a “canned” type of happiness. What I mean by canned happiness is that they promise the same happiness to everyone but not everyone is happy with the same things.
Our freedom allows us to decide what makes us happy. It’s not left up to some bureaucrat in an old moldy office somewhere within government office buildings hidden from view. At its best, happiness is fickle thing because it is fleeting and elusive. We often think we know what would make us happy only to find out we were wrong. The pursuit of happiness is what makes it all worthwhile, not the actual happiness.
Of course I have only been speaking from a materialistic point of view and that is intentional because spiritual happiness has nothing to do with anything that governments can give you. True happiness is from love. Happiness is the reward for loving something with all your mind and soul. Happiness doesn’t exist without the love of something. The love can be for a job, an activity, a person or even something materialistic. In that sense socialism can provide some happiness but it never lasts because all things are terminal.
The only lasting happiness has to come from an everlasting love. The only everlasting love that exists comes from God and that is another thing that socialists won’t tell you. That is why they are so against religion. In order to control the masses they have to be able to control the happiness and without competition. God is their ultimate competition especially where happiness is concerned.
Our government guarantees the freedom of religion which allows for the pursuit of the ultimate happiness which is God’s love. No other government system works, or should I say “did work” so well in this area as ours. We can be as happy as we wish, as long as we are willing to work for it but don’t expect our government to hand you happiness. It will never be able to do that. It can make you content but it can’t make you happy.
The pursuit of ultimate happiness always creates happiness within others because it is composed of love, God’s love. God’s love can’t help but create happiness. Therefore, while you are in pursuit of your happiness keep in mind that you should be creating happiness in others or your happiness is a false happiness.
So as our country is devolving I want you to ask yourself, how happy will you be when you will no longer be able to make yourself happy? How happy will you be when the government dictates to you what makes you happy? I wish you all the happiness in the world but you can’t find that in a socialist system.
